Arriving at the site at about 11am and managing to skip the huge queue that was forming outside of the gates, got the day off to a great start. As we wondered through the campsites to get to the main area and hearing everyone who had been there for the whole weekend talk about previous acts and who they were excited to see that day, made me even more excited.
When we finally got to the main arena we headed straight to the Official Merchandise stand. I wanted to buy practically everything there but I settled on a Leeds Festival booklet and lanyard with the times of each act and an official Leeds Festival T-Shirt.
The first act that I went to see was Royal Blood at the NME/Radio 1 stage. I'd heard so many good reviews about their set at Reading Festival the day before, I had high expectations for their performance - and they definitely met them! Playing their 8 song set that included their singles: "Come On Over", "Figure It Out", "Little Monster" and finishing with "Out Of The Black", the tent was filled with people and you could tell that every single one of these people were loving this performance!
Peace were the next band I got to see that day, performing live on the Main Stage. Their 10 song set list contained songs from their first album "In Love" as well as a few new songs including "Money". The crowded began to gather around the main stage while Peace were performing yet a lot of them left after the performance which made me think maybe they should have been on stage later in the day.
After going for a wander around the site, I headed back to the main stage just in time for Foster The People. Their set was great and included old and new songs, however everyone in the audience was patiently waiting for "Pumped Up Kicks" and the crowd went mad when they heard the intro! Following Foster The People, were Imagine Dragons. I didn't realise just how many songs of theirs I knew until I saw them that day and I can honestly say they were one of my favourite acts by far! Frontman, Dan Reynolds frequently left the stage to interact with the audience and made everyone mosh pit while they covered Blur's "Song 2", which is an experience I will never forget! Overall, their set was lively, fun and so energetic, I would love to go and see them live again!
Jake Bugg was the next and final act of the night before headliners, Arctic Monkeys. Along with his guitar, Jake took to the stage and played a 15 song set list which included songs from both his self entitled album as well as "Shangri La". With the whole crowd singing the words back to him it was another great performance.
And then, it was finally time for Arctic Monkeys. Opening their set with "Do I Wanna Know?" and continuing to play songs from all five of their number one albums, it was the perfect way to finish the weekend! The transition from "Knee Socks" into "My Propellor" went down really well with everyone in the audience as did Alex's dedication to Sheffield during the beginning of Old Yellow Bricks; "Sheffield is wonderful, oh Sheffield is wonderful.", he sung after he announced to the crowd that he was dedicating the song to Sheffield. Instead of "I Wanna Be Yours" which the band performed at Reading the previous night, they performed "505" from their album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" before 'ending' their performance. They then came back on stage for an encore, which consisted of "One For The Road", "When The Sun Goes Down" and a short acoustic rendition of "Mardy Bum" which definitely took the crowd by surprise. They then continued into their final song of the evening and the final song on Leeds Festival 2014, "R U Mine?", after finishing the song and asking the crowd if they wanted the band to "do it all over again?", Alex announced that he didn't want to go, so they restarted the song from "She's a silver lining", three times, before they had to leave! The crowd made their way back to their cars and tents and Leeds Festival was officially over for that year.
I am so glad that I got the chance to go because I saw some amazing bands live and had such a great time!
Roll on Leeds Festival 2015.
